Blackmore Vale

We are a branch of the Embroiderers' Guild in Dorset and we have a large number of members interested in all types of embroidery, sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet and textile art. We have a bi-annual exhibition in conjunction with Dorset Arts Week. This year is our 25th Anniversary. We hope you enjoy looking at our work and activities during our meetings and workshops.

Retrospective Two - Shrink Polyester

This workshop (November 2011) was led by the talented Jan Tillet - she ably demonstrated the use of shrink polyester and here are some of the samples worked by our members. Enjoy!

Retrospective One - Frescoes

This is the first of many posts over the coming weeks which will feature photos previously posted on Facebook.  This is a workshop that our group enjoyed on 25 October 2011 with Fay Maxwell. It was entitled Frescoes and involved painting upholstery fabric and pelmet vilene, then cutting and applying the shapes and using the remainder as a stencil.

Why Does it Always Rain on Us!

Yesterday the branch held the Garden Party at our dear President's home!  This was a special day because we were celebrating 25 years since the Branch was set up.  Many of those original members were present and it was wonderful to see the banner on display ... and even better to see the notes and samples from the meetings and plans to devise it.  Even the samples were as neat and beautiful as our banner.
As can be seen by the following photographs, the day was very well attended - we all brought something to sew (or knit), a plate of savoury and sweet food to share and our chatter!

The day started with a crossword based on embroidery subjects, which was devised by one of our members, swiftly followed by lunch.  Then the piece de resistance - a 30 question quiz, also set up by the same clever lady. This resulted in lots of head scratching and a little bit of sharing ideas!! The day ended with a raffle, which was free to members and 11 lucky people went home with a beautiful prize.
Can you see the raindrops on the window?

But...... it is now commonplace that the day is spent inside the marquee whilst the wind and rain rage about us outside - oh well, there's always next year!
